Tyler Perry Defends Joel Osteen + Donating $1 Million To Hurricane Harvey Relief
Tyler Perry is the latest celebrity donating to those affected by Hurricane Harvey. He explained,
In the past, I have given millions and millions of dollars to charities and I was just really disheartened to find out that the monies that I’d given didn’t actually get to the people. So what I was looking for were people who were boots on the ground, that could help immediately.
The director, producer and writer also defended mega preacher Joel Osteen and the latest controversy that he faced.
I know there’s been some controversy about Joel Osteen and him not opening the doors of the church. Let me tell you something, Joel and Victoria [his wife] are amazing people- there’s no way that they would lock people out of the church. There were some safety concerns, I spoke to him on the phone and it all made perfect sense to me. So before you just run and judge somebody really quick you need to know the whole circumstances.
The media mogul also shared that he would be donating a total of $1 million to aid victims of the disaster.
I’m sending $250,000 to Lakewood, to make sure they can get all the supplies that people need, and I know for sure that they will. Also, I’m working with Beyonce’s pastor [Rudy Rasmus], giving another $250,000 to Bread of Life to make sure that things are immediately getting to the people.
He also stated that he’s saving $500,000 for other charities.

Osteen is worth $60 million dollars. He doesn’t need financial assistance from anyone to help those in need. It’s time for him to give back in a big way.
