EXCLUSIVE: Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz – Victory in $16.5 Mill Lawsuit Over Luxury Cars
theJasmineBRAND exclusively reports, Alicia Keys and husband Swizz Beatz scored a huge victory with a judge siding with them in a $16.5 million lawsuit over luxury cars. Last month, a New York judge came back with his decision and granted the singer and music producer’s motion to dismiss the entire case. He notes that sanctions against Metro Gem Leasing may be warranted due to their actions and he suggests they should pay Alicia and Swizz attorney fees.
The order explains Metro Gem filed the lawsuit in New York Supreme Court after they had sued in Federal Court, with that case being dismissed. The judge says that the claims in both lawsuits are nearly identical and the Federal Judge already dismissed the claims.
He directed the parties to discuss how to handle sanctions privately or the court will make a decision if they can’t reach an agreement.
Here’s the backstory: The couple was hit with a $16.5 million lawsuit filed over a pair of luxury cars. Metro Gem Leasing sued Swizz, and also Alicia Key’s company, AK Worldwide Productions. They accused Swizz of reselling or fraudulently using luxury cars leased in his name – including a $155,000 Range Rover and $600,000 Ferrari F12.
The company alleged that the cars were used after defaulting on the leases and avoiding repossession while still owing a ton of money for the vehicles. The suit said that the couple had 5 leases in default.
Keys responded to the suite stating that she had nothing to do with a lease agreement with Metro and pointed out that her name was not on any of the paperwork.
She also accused the leasing company of trying to loop her into the suit for a more profitable outcome. Swizz filed a separate motion to dismiss the case and accused Metro of also trying to squeeze money from him due to his public status.
