Issa Rae Slams Kanye West in Front of Kim Kardashian
Aside from her comedic genius, “Insecure” star, Issa Rae, is known for her pro-Black award show statements. Last night’s CDFA Awards were no different. She served as the host for the prestigious fashion awards show, and gave some bold, but not unheard of, statements about Kanye West. She said:
I’m about as fashionable as Kanye is black. Only when it’s convenient…That joke was my choice, just like slavery.
But the plot thickens. Kanye West’s reality star/beauty entrepreneur, Kim Kardashian, was in the audience when she said that. Yikes!
As of yet, the only mention found on Kim’s social media is the fact that she was being honored for her influence at the awards show.

Issa Rae also let her fashion make a statement. She donned a belt with the script “Every nigga is a star” stitched on it.

This is a nod to both the Boris Gardiner song which was featured in the Oscar winning movie, “Moonlight,” and Issa’s viral “I’m rooting for everybody Black” statement.
Along with Issa and the rest of the world, her fellow “Insecure” castmates are choosing not to support Kanye West’s controversial antics. Natasha Rothwell, who plays Kelly on the show, tweeted:
ICYMI: if u still fux wit Kanye, i don’t fux wit you.
Jay Ellis, the infamous Lawrence character, shared the same sentiments. He tweeted:
Musical genius or not, until he walks back ‘slavery as a choice’ and making America great again, I can’t support.
Isn’t it ironic that the “Insecure” cast is the most “secure” demonstration of using your platform constructively?
