Lee Daniels To Mo’Nique: You’re Out of Pocket For Disrespecting Me, Oprah & Tyler Perry
Lee Daniels To Mo’Nique: You’re Out of Pocket For Disrespecting Me, Oprah & Tyler Perry
For years, Mo’Nique has claimed that she was blackballed in the film industry by Lee Daniels, Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry.
She says that, at the time, she shot “Precious” for little to no money but when she refused to promote the film for free, it rubbed Daniels the wrong way. In 2015, she stated in an interview,
I got a phone call from Lee Daniels maybe six or seven months ago, and he said to me, ‘Mo’Nique, you’ve been blackballed.’ And I said, ‘I’ve been blackballed? Why have I been blackballed?’ And he said, ‘Because you didn’t play the game.’
Lee has responded, telling Raq Rants that this was not the case.
I fought hard for her to get that job. I wanted her to get that job. And she was paid her money. She was paid the money for the budget that we had. And for her to badmouth myself and Tyler and Oprah is disrespectful and it’s wrong. She’s out of pocket. She’s really wrong.
He went on to say:
I respect her [as an] actor because she gave me her soul, but I gave her my soul. And for that she was given the Golden Globe and the Academy Award and it breaks my heart that she feels that we blackballed her. No one blackballed her. Mo’Nique blackballed her. And for her to continue to speak about Oprah and myself and Tyler is disrespectful.
In other Mo’Nique news, she recently revealed a phone call she had with Tyler Perry in which he apologized for how things turned out. Will things ever get better between Mo’Nique and Lee Daniels?
