D. L. Hughley Recalls Confrontation With Bill Cosby

D. L. Hughley Says Bill Cosby Will Go to Jail, Remembers Having  Confrontation

D. L. Hughley recently made an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live (WWHL) and gave his opinion on the latest with Bill Cosby. In usual WWHL fashion, guests of the show play mini trivia games where they try to deliver funny punchlines in a matter of seconds. During a game of “Stand Up or Stand Down”, the comedian/author was asked his latest thoughts on Cosby, and if he believed he would be going to prison. He responded:

Yes. The amazing thing about is me and Bill Cosby had a confrontation, I believed he had done a lot of these things.

Hughley then referenced how he remembered a protester from Cosby’s trial,

The funny thing for me is when he was on trail, there was a protestor that ran up to him with her shirt off and all the names of 50 victims across her chest. When you run at a man with your breast out, the last thing he doing is reading.

Cohen moves the conversation when he asked further details on the confrontation with Cosby.

I was a specific type of comedian, and Bill Cosby had a different type of perspective of what comedy should be.

He begins the story,

One time I was hosting a radio show, and he called in to do press, and I didn’t want to do it because I knew we were going to get into it. He was being so rude to the people around me, so I said, ‘Mr. Cosby, what did you want?’ Then he asked me who I was and I told him. He said, ‘D. L. Hughley, you say the N-Word. I said, ‘With all due respect, I say the N-Word, but nobody wakes up with their panties on backwards.’

He concluded his remarks,

He changed comedy. I think he was a brilliant man. But I think you can be brilliant and a rapist, I don’t think those things are mutually exclusive.

This is not the first time the comedian has mentioned this incident. During an interview with Sway’s Universe in 2015, he spoke about the same interaction he had with Cosby. After he made his statement to Cosby, Hughley says radio officials came and took the tape and urged the interview would not air due to Hughley’s statement.
