Wendy Williams Talks Beating Cocaine Addiction – “I was a functioning addict”
Wendy Williams has overcome many obstacles to become the queen of daytime television – cocaine addiction is one of them. She recently spoke candidly about how she battled both her addiction and the stresses of competing against her radio industry peers for the top spot. She called herself a “functioning addict.”
I was a functioning addict, though…I would report to work on time and I walked in and all of my coworkers, and including my bosses, would know but instead of firing me, you see, I would grab my headphones and arrogantly walk into the studio and dare them fire me because I was making ratings.
She continued:
A functioning addict has several alarm clocks, you’re organized…It’s a miracle I was able to stop.
Williams, 54, is now using her survival story to help combat addiction and substance abuse. She’s partnering with the Hunter Foundation as the face of the “Be Here” campaign. But she’s not stopping her philanthropic train there. She celebrated her birthday with the “Wendy Gives Back” gala. A few of our fave celebs showed up to ask Wendy, “How you doin’?!”
