Woods learned about her pregnancy five months in and has since confirmed that fellow model, Adonis Bosso, is the father to her unborn child. During her finding, she learned that she was misdiagnosed with infertility when she was younger. As she expresses that she and Bosso are both equally excited for their son’s birth. She is also keeping the option open she may one day be with a woman again.
The Minneapolis native sat with Elle magazine to talk sexuality, motherhood, her views on America, how she met Rihanna and being an influencer on social media. She speaks says about her sexuality:
With sexuality, when you are a public figure you have to pick a side, black or white. But I’m grey.
She also discusses her baby daddy, fellow model Adonis Bosso.
I never thought I’d be with anyone like him.
The model admits tthat she doesn’t experience any baby daddy drama:
I hear sob stories about baby daddy drama. Being 21 and my baby’s father being excited is just step one. There are girls who don’t even have that.
How she found out she was pregnant:
I was really, really, really sick in London, but thought it was because of travel, so a doctor gave me pills for flu. Went to Paris: more pills for flu. And then I went to LA, and they tried a sonogram, and I saw my baby’s face and heard his heartbeat. Tears of joy.
How she met Rihanna:
[Rihanna] saw a photo of me on Instagram, found me, and we hit it off.
What their relationship is like:
You ever loved someone so much that every time you see them, you end up in tears somehow? She reminds me of my mother. Like, they’re the same person. I tell them they remind me of each other all the time.
The relationship between her real mother, who is in prison:
We talk about everything – except modeling. She asks me how my day is. We don’t need to talk about magazines. Being a gang member, everybody expected her not to be the best mum. But my mum was very hands-on with me as a child. My mummy read to me in the womb. And she’s proud because she knows that everybody expected me to be exactly what she was. She went to prison when she was 19. I became a model at 19. And I can take care of my mother when she gets out.
Her thoughts on motherhood:
At 14, 15, I never expected to ever be giving any type of life; to be this happy with having a child. From not having a family to being able to create your own. Things you lacked, things you missed out on, trauma – you can erasethat by creating new life. All those things you didn’t get, all thosehugs and kisses. I can retract those things with my son’s life. In giving him that childhood, it heals you as well. In hugging your son, it’s giving a piece of that back to you, too. I need him as much as he needs me.
