Derrick Rose Announces $400K ‘Rose Scholars’ College Scholarship Program
Celebrities are putting their money where their mouth is and encouraging education amongst our children. Within the last week, Beyonce has paid the tuition of eight HBCU students, Lebron James has opened his own school, YG has donated $150,000 to a STEM startup for young girls and now Derrick Rose has announced his own college tuition program.
I’m excited to share the launch of The Rose Scholars program, a scholarship program which seeks to give high school students the opportunity they need to make their dreams a reality.
Derrick Rose announced the program on Twitter. He’s inviting high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who are in need to apply via his website and if chosen, one person will be gifted up to $200,000, paid out $25k per semester for 4 years. Two additional winners will receive up to $20k a year for 4 years.
Through the Rose Scholars program, I hope to provide students with a path to college that was not previously available to them. Investing in school-age youth has long been a passion of mine and I am proud to continue to help children pursue higher education as a means to better themselves and their communities.
Rose also provides an inspirational letter to the students applying for their chance to win.
