Mel B To Pay Ex Husband 5k In Monthly Child Support, 350k In Divorce Settlement
The ink on the divorce papers is dry and Mel B is a free woman once again. However, the former Spice Girl did not exactly come out on top.
In March 2017, Mel B filed for divorce from Stephen Belafonte after 10 years of marriage. The long, drawn-out divorce has been a messy one, to say the least. There have been accusations of physical abuse and infidelity but now, after a year, a Los Angeles judge has made a final ruling.
According to the judge, Mel B must pay $350,000 towards her ex’s legal fees, half within 30 days and the remainder upon the sale of their $7.7 million mansion. The couple was forced to put their marital home on sale in order to pay back taxes they owe. The judge has also thrown out Mel B and Belafonte’s restraining orders against each other.
As far as custody, Mel B must pay Belafonte $5,000 a month in child support for the couple’s 6-year-old daughter Madison. When asked how he felt now that the divorce is over, Stephen Belafonte said:
“I’m ecstatic — I’m going to Disney World. I got everything I wanted and we could have settled this months ago. It’s such a relief that it’s finally over.”
During the divorce, Stephen Belafonte requested visitation for his 10-year-old stepdaughter, Angel, the biological daughter of Eddie Murphy. However, that request was not granted.
