As we’ve previously reported, Academy award-winning actress/singer Jennifer Hudson has signed on to play Aretha in a movie that has been in the works for several years. Reportedly, both Halle Berry and Queen Latifah were in talks of starring as the iconic singer. Aretha authorized the film and even worked with Hudson to teach her about her life.
In the wake of Aretha’s passing, Jennifer Hudson had these words to share:
I have no words , so I will let the Queen say it ! But I will Say while teaching me about your life , u taught me so much about life and schooled me in mine . I will never forget those teachings #riparethafranklin
MGM has acquired the rights to the film. A filmmaker and screenwriter have yet to be chosen. We’re sure production will go into overdrive now that Aretha, 76, has suddenly passed.
Aretha Franklin’s longtime publicist confirmed her death, with this press release:

Rest In Peace, Aretha.
