Serena Williams Won’t Celebrate Her Daughter’s Birthday For This Reason
Serena Williams won’t be throwing an elaborate birthday for daughter Alexis Olympia. This week, her daughter turns one, but the tennis star says that her family won’t celebrate, due to religious beliefs as a Jehovah’s Witness.
Serena recently explained this during a US Open press conference. She was asked by a reporter,
‘Is there a birthday party planned?’
To this, Serena responded,
‘Olympia doesn’t celebrate birthdays. We’re Jehovah’s Witnesses, so we don’t do that.’
Reportedly, Serena’s husband Alexis Ohanian converted to the religion as well. Serena recently said about the couple’s faith,
‘Being a Jehovah’s Witness is important to me, but I’ve never really practiced it and have been wanting to get into it. ‘Alexis didn’t grow up going to any church, but he’s really receptive and even takes the lead. He puts my needs first.’
