Kevin Hart Quits Oscar Hosting Gig After Refusing To Apologize For Old Homophobic Tweets

Kevin Hart officially stepped down from his dream gig after previously refusing to apologize for old tweets that offended the LGBTQ community.

In the tweets dated back to 2009 and 2010, Kevin Harts jokes about homosexuality and says that he would punish his son for being gay. One tweet in particular read:

Yo if my son comes home & try’s 2 play with my daughters doll house I’m going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice stop that’s gay.

In a tweet from 2010, Kevin Hart insulted a Twitter follower who said that he and Sarah Silverman were the “worst comedians ever”.

This would not be the first time Kevin Hart’s old tweets have surfaced. He had to answer for distasteful tweets about dark skinned women just months ago. Back in April, Twitter dug up a 2010 tweet in which Hart said light skinned women had better credit than dark skinned women.

Upon Hart’s old tweets going viral, the comedian took to Instagram to formally address them. However, he did not apologize for what he wrote, only acknowledged that he is a different person than he was 9 years ago and chastised the individuals who brought the tweets back up in an attempt to bring him negative energy. He wrote:

Stop looking for reasons to be negative…Stop searching for reasons to be angry….I swear I wish you guys could see/feel/understand the mental place that I am in. I am truly happy people….there is nothing that you can do to change that…NOTHING. I work hard on a daily basis to spread positivity to all….with that being said. If u want to search my history or past and anger yourselves with what u find that is fine with me. I’m almost 40 years old and I’m in love with the man that I am becoming. You LIVE and YOU LEARN & YOU GROW & YOU MATURE. I live to Love….Please take your negative energy and put it into something constructive. Please….What’s understood should never have to be said. I LOVE EVERYBODY…..ONCE AGAIN EVERYBODY. If you choose to not believe me then that’s on you….Have a beautiful day

In the comments, Kevin’s wife Eniko stood by his side.

Hours after posting the video, Kevin Hart posted another video telling fans that the Academy gave him an ultimatum, either he apologizes or he loses his hosting gig. Surprisingly, Kevin doubled down, saying he will choose not to give internet trolls power by apologizing.

Before The Academy could respond publicly to Hart’s videos, the comedian took to Twitter to make it official that he was stepping down from the hosting job.

I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.

I’m sorry that I hurt people.. I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again.
