Taraji P. Henson Accepts Her Star On Hollywood Walk of Fame

Taraji P. Henson received her star along on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Monday. Over the course of the last decade, the 48-year-old actress has released an memoir, starred in “Baby Boy,” “Hustle & Flow,” “Karate Kid,” and most recently “What Men Want.”

She’s also achieved recognition from the Academy, with her Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress in the film “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” and has won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series for her role of Cookie on FOX’s “Empire.”

Henson wore a bloody red suit as she accepted her star and posed for photos. She talked about her grandmother’s impact on her career and life when accepting her honor, as well.

What I love about my grandmother is her unconditional love. She taught the family how to love, and she keeps us very close. All my cousins and I are really, really close. But of course, she prayed. She did a lot of praying and she continues to pray for me, and like I said in my speech, her prayers definitely brought me here. So, my grandmother’s my everything.

Her son Marvell, fiancé Kelvin Hayden, friend Mary J. Blige, John Singleton and Will Packer were in attendance also.

She gave a speech during her ceremony speaking about her impact in society through her art.

…when you love that deep, and you make promises, you have to keep them. And so I’m telling you everything I do is for the positive forward movement of humanity. That’s how powerful art is, I don’t take anything for granted. Every role that I take on is just as special as the last one. Because I know that if I put my all into it, and some way this role transformed me, then I know the audience will be transformed….Thank you so much…God is very real.
