R.Kelly Unable To Pay $100k Bail, May Stay In Jail Until Monday Or Tuesday
Not so good news for R. Kelly. The 52-year-old singer is staying in jail longer than expected. He turned himself in Friday night.
After turning himself in, the singer’s attorney Steve Greenberg, maintained his innocence, speaking to the press.
While many assumed that R.Kelly would be out of jail by the following day, Greenberg says that he won’t be able to get out of jail until Monday or Tuesday as he’s scrambling to arrange to pay the $100,000 bail needed to be released.
Kelly awaits trial for aggravated sexual abuse. His attorney says,
“He has to rely on others acting on his behalf. And it’s just not that easy — because Kelly’s in jail.”
A bond court judge on Saturday set bail at $1 million, requiring he pay 10 percent. After he is released from jail, one of his conditions is that Kelly have no contact with females younger than 18.
Kelly was charged in a grand jury indictment unsealed Friday with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse involving four victims, three of whom were minors. Allegations against him emerged Saturday when the prosecution released four detailed documents — one for each accuser — outlining the basis for the charges. The allegations date back as far as 1998.
