Condolences: Melvin Edmonds of R&B Group ‘After 7’ Dies
theJasmineBRAND is sad to report that singer Melvin Edmonds of legendary R&B group, After 7, has passed away. His death, of a longtime illness, was confirmed on Saturday, May 18, 2019. Known for his velvety smooth tone, he lead chart-topping After 7 hits such as “Ready or Not,” and “Can’t Stop.” The group’s success garnered both Grammy and NAACP Image award nominations.
His son, also named Melvin Edmonds, announced his passing on Facebook. He said:
“Not doing to well. REST IN PEACE DAD. I LOVE YOU AND WILL SEE YOU SOON. I’m going to miss you!!”

Melvin is the older brother of decorated singer/songwriter Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. Many regard the Indianapolis natives as one of the most influential music families from Indiana next to the Jackson family.
A life-altering stroke as well as other health issues were reported on the group’s “Unsung” special on TV One. Neither Babyface nor the members of After 7 have commented on the death of their dear brother Melvin Edmonds at the time of publication. Melvin was 65 years old.
