ASAP Rocky Posts Social Media Statement After Being Released From Jail Pending Verdict + Trump Tweets: It Was A Rocky Week!
A$AP Rocky is a free man, at least for now. On Friday, a Swedish judge ordered the 30-year-old rapper’s release, pending the verdict in his assault trial. He has been ordered to remain in Sweden until judgment is reached on Aug. 14. President Donald Trump, who has been a vocal supporter of ASAP, tweeted:
“A$AP Rocky released from prison and on his way home to the United States from Sweden. It was a Rocky Week, get home ASAP A$AP!”
A$AP posted the following on social media after his release:
THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART TO ALL OF MY FANS, FRIENDS AND ANYONE ACROSS THE GLOBE WHO SUPPORTED ME DURING THESE LAST FEW WEEKS I CANT BEGIN TO DESCRIBE HOW GRATEFUL I AM FOR ALL OF YOU THIS HAS BEEN A VERY DIFFICULT AND HUMBLING EXPERIENCE I WANT TO THANK THE COURT FOR ALLOWING ME BLADI AND THOTO TO RETURN TO OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL OF THE LOVE AND SUPPORT
The trial ended Friday with prosecutors asking the court to convict him and impose at least a six-month jail sentence.
ASAP Rocky and his legal team argue self-defense during a confrontation with 19-year-old Mustafa Jafari in Stockholm on June 30.
Meanwhile, prosecutors allege that he and two people with him “deliberately, together and in agreement” hit and kicked Jafari, including with a bottle.
ASAP’s team says that it was not premeditated and referred to footage showing ASAP standing on the alleged victim’s arm and said it wasn’t the same as kicking. ASAP and two members of his entourage have been in custody in Stockholm since July 3. They pleaded not guilty earlier this week to assault charges.
A verdict is expected soon.
