Last season, cousins recovered after suffering an Achilles tendon tear while playing for New Orleans during the 2017-18 season. He joined the Lakers, who look to have a standout upcoming season after missing the playoffs last post season. After USA Basketball practice Thursday, Lakers teammate Kylie Kuzma addressed Cousin’s ACL injury,

“It’s no joke when you get injured. This is our livelihood and it’s something that we love to do. It’s super unfortunate for a guy like DeMarcus because you can just tell how much he loves basketball through all of these injuries. He’s fought back and tried to get back as early as possible. That’s kind of how the ball goes sometimes. He was going to be a big part of what we’re going to do.”

Stunned NBA players went took to social media to express encouraging words and prayers for Cousins. Including Timberwolves’ Karl-Anthony Towns,   Wizards’ Isaiah Thomas, and Lakers teammate, Jared Dudley.

Cousins averaged 21.2 points and 10.9 rebounds in his nearly decade career in the NBA. This off season, he signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Lakers in July.

The news hit social media hard, here are some fan reactions to Cousin’s injury.
