Lil Nas X & Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road” Gets CMA Nomination
Award season is shaping up to be a good one for Lil Nas X. This is no surprise considering his breakout song “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus broke records and ceilings. Now, he’s received a nomination for a Country Music Association Award!
The hit garnered a nod for Musical Event of the Year.

Lil Nas X also responded on social media.

Interestingly enough, the song was booted from the country charts shortly after its release earlier this year.
Billboard said in a statement,
“Upon further review, it was determined that ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X does not currently merit inclusion on Billboard’s country charts. When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition. While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.”
The nod also comes fresh after Lil Nas X won his very first award, Song of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards Monday.
Congrats Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus!
