Malik Yoba Removed From Phi Beta Sigma’s Youth Program
While Malik Yoba has denied a transgender woman’s claims that they slept together when she was underage, the allegations allegedly have cost him a leadership role with Phi Beta Sigma, Inc.’s youth program, the Sigma Beta Club. See Mariah Lopez Ebony’s allegations below.
Yoba is an honorary member of the fraternity and was named the program’s spokesperson recently.
The fraternity reportedly released a statement about Ebony’s claims and removed Yoba from the organization Thursday (Sept. 5).
“Those reports allege that Yoba had been previously involved in an inappropriate relationship 20 years ago, allegations that Brother Yoba denies. This is a serious issue and the allegation is inconsistent with, and a distraction to, the focus of the Sigma Beta Club. To safeguard the reputation of the program and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., the National Sigma Beta Club Foundation, in consultation with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity’s leadership, has determined it to be in the best interest of all concerned that Brother Malik Yoba no longer serve as the National Spokesperson for the Sigma Beta Club program.”
Meanwhile, Yoba has denied the claims multiple times. He posted a video seemingly addressing the allegations.
He also previously said,
“Absolutely she’s lying. But it’s not just the lie. It’s the type of lie. I’ve only become aware of her through other people. I don’t know who she is, I didn’t know who she is. I’ve seen online, people have sent me stuff. That’s the kind of thing that we’re talking about. This trauma is so deep in people that a person like that… I have no idea who this is, I have no idea why she would do what she was doing, but a person like that, and there are many others that carry trauma. And they go, ‘okay, if I’ve been on the street and people have abused me and neglected me, I’m gonna go for that one dude that everyone loves, and I’m gonna say he did it. He did this to me.’”
