Chelsea Handler Talks White Privilege, Recalls Slapping A Black Woman’s Butt – Jada Pinkett-Smith’s Mom Is ‘Shocked & Appalled’

It’s not often that Jada Pinkett Smith and her mom Adrienne Banfield Norris are left shocked on their Red Table Talk series. But Chelsea Handler left the ladies speechless during her sit-down.

Handler discussed her Netflix documentary Hello Privilege. It’s Me Chelsea, where she confronts the White privilege she says she’s experienced in the past.

The former late-night talk show host shared a story where she got physical with a Black woman and was given a lesson on privilege.

“This Black woman was standing up singing a song and I went up to her and said, ‘Oh my god that was beautiful,’ and I slapped her on the butt.”

Smith and Norris let their gasps speak for them before Norris broke her silence. She said,

“I’m shocked and appalled right now.”

Handler added,

“And so was she. She said, ‘Black women have been defined by their hair and their asses for ages. You have no right to touch my body.'”

Norris said,

“Just such classic white privilege right here.”

She also explained how her privilege has allowed her to have different experiences in everyday places like the grocery store.

“Going into the grocery store as a White person is totally different than going into the grocery store as a Black person. No one’s looking at you to screw up. No one’s looking at you take something. No one suspects anything. Do you know how many times I’ve walked out of grocery stores because the line was too long and I didn’t feel like waiting? Talk about entitlement and privilege, I just knew I wasn’t gonna get caught.”
