LeBron James Addresses NBA’s Controversy With China, Receives Backlash
NBA star LeBron James has pointed the finger at Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey for the league’s current issues with China. And many are calling James out on it.
It was previously reported that China severed ties with the NBA after Morey tweeted in support of protestors in Hong Kong. He wrote on Oct. 4:
“Fight for Freedom. Stand with Hong Kong.”
Morey’s tweet came as rallies in Hong Kong, which was once a British colony before it came a territory in China, called out Beijing for taking away its liberties. China has reportedly viewed the protestors as violent and a barrier to its nationalism.
Now, many have taken issue with James’ perspective. When asked if Morey should face consequences, James shared his thoughts during a press conference Monday (Oct. 14),

He also hinted that Morey wasn’t educated enough to speak on the issue.

He then hopped on Twitter and said that Morey could have pressed pause on sending the tweet, considering the Houston Rockets and the Toronto Raptors were competing in preseason games in Japan at the time.
He has since received lots of backlash for his thoughts.
