Ray J Says He Was Being “Mentally Petty” When He Released “I Hit It First” Song
Ray J has had a few major moments of maturity while growing up in the public eye. But he’s also had a few side-eye worthy moments too.
The singer and reality star received mixed reactions when he released the song “I Hit It First,” in April 2013, which was said to be about his ex-girlfriend Kim Kardashian West. At the time, she was going strong with her now husband Kanye West, who she married about a year after the song was released.

Kim Kardashian West was also just months away from giving birth to her and Kanye West’s first child North West when the song dropped. Still, Ray J caused his past with Kim to resurface when he released the single, reminding everyone about their infamous sex tape that was released in 2007, just before Kim reached new levels of fame with her family’s “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” series.
Now, it looks like Ray J is singing a different tune about the song.
He said while on Drink Champs in Miami earlier this week,
“I think at that time, I was just mentally petty. Mentally petty and just having too much fun. Really not thinking about the other side and how it might make people feel. Not just the other side of who I was talking about but just really, the fans and people, who, like depend on you to do right.”
Ray J went on to marry his now wife, Princess Love, who is currently pregnant with their second child.

The two have had very public issues as she accused him of leaving her and their daughter Melody stranded in Las Vegas.

Ray J has since cleared the air and it looks like he’s willing to fight for his marriage.
