Heidi Klum Defends “America’s Got Talent” While Speaking On Gabrielle Union’s Firing: I’ve Only Had An Amazing Experience
Uh oh. Fans were shocked at the news of actress Gabrielle Union‘s abrupt firing after one season as a judge on the talent competition show, “America’s Got Talent.” Reports broke that tensions came to a head after Gabrielle Union expressed concern over race-related comments made by comedian Jay Leno and alleged complaints about her hairstyles being “too Black” for the show’s audience.

Meetings were held and an official investigation was conducted by the show’s network, NBC.

However, former supermodel and “America’s Got Talent” judge, Heidi Klum, seemingly came to the show’s defense against Gabrielle Union’s departure. After Tuesday’s Television Critics Association panel, Heidi Klum offered this comment about her time on the show:
“I’ve only had an amazing experience. I can’t speak for [Gabrielle Union]. I didn’t experience the same thing. To me, everyone treats you with the utmost respect. I’ve never seen anything that was weird or hurtful.”

When asked if she had seen or heard of any racism on set, she gave this reply:
“Nothing.”
Shockingly, Heidi Klum gave this example of a hypothetical interaction with Simon Cowell.
“Of course, there’s always this cat-and-dog fight, but this is fun. You say something silly. For me, being on television, I want to entertain people. I want people to have a good time. I want people to go away from their life for two hours and just have fun and enjoy. If there’s a girl on stage and she’s a beautiful girl…and I said, ‘I didn’t love the act so much, I think you’re gorgeous and this and that,’ and he’s like, ‘Meow!’ I think that’s funny, because I understand the joke, because normally girls are catty and it’s like, ‘Oh, maybe I don’t like the girl on the stage because she’s beautiful.’ But, like relax! It’s a joke.”
Oop! Should Gabrielle Union have taken the comments from Jay Leno or NBC’s producers as a joke? Let us know in the comments.
