HBO’s “Watchmen” Unlikely To Get A 2nd Season
According to reports, HBO’s “Watchmen” will not return for a second season. The series ensemble cast includes Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Andrew Howard, Jacob Ming-Trent, Tom Mison, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Louis Gossett Jr., Jeremy Irons, Jean Smart, and Hong Chau. The series is a superhero drama that continues the 1987 DC Comics series Watchmen, created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. The TV series was created by Damon Lindelof for HBO, with Lindelof as executive producer and writer.
So why isn’t the show returning for a second season? The show’s creator Damon Lindelof isn’t interested in continuing. HBO programming chief Casey Bloys tells USA Today,
“It’s really in Damon’s thinking about what he wants to do. If there’s an idea that excited him about another season, another installment, maybe like a ‘Fargo,’ ‘True Detective’ (anthology) take on it, or if he wants to do something different altogether. We’re very proud of ‘Watchmen,’ but what I’m most interested in what Damon wants to do.”
Meanwhile, Lindelof says he has no interest in a second season, but adds that he has given his blessing to HBO should it want to pursue a new installment with another writer-producer.
