Thank you to Dr. Sam Gandy, East End Hospice and additional caregivers who helped us make B. comfortable in her final days. Thank you to all the friends and fans who supported B. and our family during her journey. Thank you to everyone for respecting our privacy during this agonizing time.

Heaven is shining even brighter now that it is graced with B.’s dazzling and unforgettable smile. -Dan Gasby

In 2019, B.Smith made headlines when Dan Gasby when he shared that his girlfriend, Alexandra Lerner, lived with him and B.Smith. He also gave an update on B.Smith’s condition stating:

“Everybody tells you how to live your life. But that’s while they’re living theirs and not surviving through our problems. I’m in my 60s. I lived tied up in a box five years. Childlike, Barbara can no longer spell a word.”

Smith married twice and has no biological children. Her first marriage was to former HBO executive Donald “Don” Anderson from 1986 until 1990. Smith began dating Anderson after formally meeting at her restaurant in late–1986. Smith married Dan Gasby in 1992 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Manhattan.

In June 2014, Smith revealed that she had been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, stating that she came out with the information to counter the stigma associated with the disease.

We send our condolences to her family and friends.
