R.Kelly Hit With New Sex Trafficking Charges, Accused Of Spreading STD To Victims
R.Kelly was hit with new criminal charges by Federal prosecutors on Friday (March 13th).
The 53-year-old jailed singer has been accused of having sex in 2015 with an underage girl (referred to as Jane Doe #5) and a woman without disclosing he had herpes.
According to the indictment, he is also accused of making videos of the sexual encounter with the girl later that year.
The court papers claim that he arranged for the underage girl to travel to New York and other locations to have sex with him without informing her
“he had contracted herpes and obtaining her consent to sexual intercourse in these circumstances.”
Reportedly, one of the new counts on his indictment, coercion and enticement of alleged victim, carries a minimum 10-year prison sentence.
The singer is currently being held at a federal jail in Chicago, where he faces other charges in a federal case in Illinois. He is accused of running a racketeering scheme and heading an enterprise that trafficked women and underage girls who would come to his shows.
R.Kelly’s lawyer Steve Greenberg tweeted on social media Friday afternoon:
Having now had the opportunity to review the latest superseding indictment against
@rkelly, we do not believe it fundamentally changes anything.
Kelly’s Brooklyn trial is set to begin May 18.
