Rihanna Is Okay w/ Starting A Family Alone: Society Diminishes You As A Mother If There’s Not A Dad In Your Kids’ Lives
Worldwide superstar and businesswoman Rihanna still hasn’t released her new music project yet. However, the entertainment mogul is keeping busy and has recently graced the cover of British Vogue for its May issue. In addition to looking absolutely stunning in her cover photos wearing a durag, Rihanna took time to sit down with British journalist Afua Hirsch and gave an update on the process of her anticipated album, business ventures, and personal life.
Many people speculated that Rihanna’s new album would have dropped before the end of 2019. And even though Rihanna never confirmed those rumors herself, she did jokingly tease her fans about being a liar as 2019 came and went without her releasing any new music.
In her interview with Vogue, while Rihanna remains quiet about the album’s official release date, she did touch on the vibe she wants her album to have.
“I don’t want my albums to feel like themes. There are no rules. There’s no format. There’s just good music, and if I feel it, I’m putting it out.”
The singer went on to confirm that the project will, in fact, be a reggae album.
“Oh no, that is happening, I feel like I have no boundaries. I’ve done everything – I’ve done all the hits, I’ve tried every genre – now I’m just, I’m wide open. I can make anything that I want.”
Outside of her music, one of the many things that’s lovable about Rihanna is that she’s not afraid to use her voice and platform to stand up for what she believes.
“I think police brutality is probably extremely severe in America, but racism is alive everywhere. Everywhere,” Rihanna said during her Vogue interview. “It’s the same [in the UK]. It’s either blatant, which is becoming more and more of a norm, or it’s underlying, where people don’t even know they’re being obvious about it. You know, it’s just a subconscious layer that’s embedded from their entire core.”
Rihanna appears to be a very private person when dealing with her personal life but she did share that one day she would like to have a few children, even if that means doing it alone.
“I feel like society makes me want to feel like, ‘Oh, you got it wrong…’ They diminish you as a mother if there’s not a dad in your kids’ lives. But the only thing that matters is happiness, that’s the only healthy relationship between a parent and a child. That’s the only thing that can raise a child truly, is love.”
When asked about the relationship with her ex-boyfriend, billionaire Hassan Jameel, Rihanna let it be known that she doesn’t have time to waste.
“Since I turned 32, I’m realizing life is really short. You don’t have a lot of time to tolerate s***, you know? You put so much on your plate. When you’re overwhelmed, you need to start cutting things out. And I’m overwhelmed too much. What’s happening now is that I’m going back to black and white. My grey area is shutting down.”
