Jailed Rapper YNW Melly Asks Kanye West For Help After Being Denied Release Following COVID-19 Diagnosis
Several prisons have taken measures to halt the spread of the COVID-19 virus, granting temporary release to some prisoners however, YNW Melly is not one of them. The 20-year-old rapper is currently awaiting trial in Florida for double-murder. Even though he has been reportedly diagnosed with COVID-19, YNW Melly, real name Jamell Demons, has been denied early release from the Broward County Jail.

While the “Mixed Personalities” rapper is sick in jail, he publicly reached out to one of his biggest collaborators Kanye West for help. YNW Melly, or possibly a member of his team, tweeted to rapper Kanye West,
“Need your help.”
He also requested the hitmaker to send a direct message.
While it may be possible YNW Melly is hoping for an early release from prison, like fellow rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine who was freed during the final months of a two-year sentence, it is unclear why he’s asking for help.
Kanye West and his superstar wife Kim Kardashian West are advocates for prison reform and have the ear of President Donald Trump. Last summer, the former reality show star turned President attempted to intervene in rapper ASAP Rocky’s assault arrest in Sweden.
Per Kanye West’s request, Trump called Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven, saying he planned on getting Rocky safely home. Instead of helping the situation, however, Trump’s comments to Lofven only made things more complicated. Still, the rapper was eventually released.
