Ex ‘RHOA’ Producer Carlos King Denies Being Involved In Epic Season 9 Reunion Drama: If That Was The Case, I’d Be In Jail!
Famed television producer Carlos King has worked on the sets of every major reality show you can think of, including Hollywood Divas, Real Housewives of Atlanta, Love and Marriage: Huntsville, and My Super Sweet 16. Carlos King sat down with Dr. Heavenly Kimes, star of Bravo’s Married to Medicine, on her YouTube show – Heaven Help Us. He spilled the deets on fake storylines, and his part in the season nine reunion debacle between Phaedra Parks, Porsha Williams, and Kandi Burruss. Fans might remember that Porsha Williams repeated a rumor she heard that Kandi Burruss and her husband Todd Tucker wanted to drug her. It later came out that Phaedra Parks was the one who started the rumor. Carlos King says he was not fired, as rumors suggested:
“Let’s start by saying this: I left the show. I did not get fired…if you Google anything, I’ve been [rumored to be] fired so many times, it’s like I was on ‘The Apprentice.’ The other thing that happened with season nine, I had nothing to do with that. Let’s be very clear. If that was the case, I wouldn’t be here today. I’d be in jail.”
Carlos King continued:
“I will always support the show. I love those girls. I keep in touch with all of them…I think whatever the audience thinks is a great season is up to them. I’m a Black man who was able to be the first Black man to executive produce that show. And to be able to have the success with that show that I had, I will always be grateful to Bravo and that audience…I watch every Sunday. I still support the show. I’m still entertained by it…I think it’s rude to say my opinion – rather good or bad – because I’m not producing it. And my friends produce that show who I love. And I know how hard it is to produce that show.”
The producer went on to slam fake storylines, and uses Melody Holt’s experience with infidelity on OWn’s “Love & Marriage” as an example of why telling your truth is important in reality TV:
“The reason why I’m blessed to have the career I have, is because I have integrity. I am a straight shooter. My goal is to not make anyone look bad, because I don’t get anything out of it. My goal is to be honest and always tell the truth. And one thing I always encourage anybody who works with me is, ‘If this is your truth- if this is how it’s really happening in your life, you owe it to yourself and your audience to be authentic. One thing about the audience and the viewers is, they can spot a fake. You’re not doing anybody justice pretending to be somebody you’re not. You’re not doing anybody justice pretending to yourself…I’m not going to force you to talk about anything. That’s just not my personality. But just know one thing: it’s going to get talked about. The best thing you can do for yourself is own it and tell your own story…the audience will always ride with you.”
“One thing that Melody did was when the infidelity came up- I’ll be honest, it wasn’t a tough conversation with her. It was more so she was going through it in real time…the moment I allowed her to deal with it on her own terms, we did say, ‘We would love for you to talk about it. A lot of women will be able to relate to you.’ Infidelity is something a lot of relationships have experienced…what you’re gonna see on this upcoming season is how they dealt with it, and how they’re dealing with life after. I’ve been watching almost 10 episodes so far, this season is [hand motions crazy].”
Carlos King even wants to expand the Love and Marriage franchise:
“I would love to expand the franchise. The franchise has done very well for all of us. So the smartest thing would absolutley be to franchise it. I would love for that to happen. I think in order for that to happen, it needs to be the right team. It needs to be the right city, and the right people.”
But in order to keep viewers tuned in to Heavenly’s Married to Medicine, he thinks the beef between Mariah Huq and Quad Lunceford-Webb needs to be resolved:
“As a fan, I love everything about the show. The only thing I wish could happen…I think fans are over the Mariah/Quad beef. And I think we would love to see them back together. Not as best friends, because I think the damage has been done- but I think we would just love to see some happiness and some fun there.”
