Tamar Braxton Weighs In On Brandy vs. Monica Battle: The Average Girl Can’t Ride w/ Brandy On Their Best Day

Tamar Braxton has stepped into the conversation of Brandy possibly battling Monica on Instagram Live. And the reality star and Grammy-nominated singer had no shame in sharing who she’s rooting for. When asked about the potential battle, she said,

“Jesus on the main line… I don’t have a problem being honest because I don’t have .  problem giving credit where credit is due. Nobody is saying that neither of the two can’t sing. That’s not what we’re saying. But the average girl can’t ride with Brandy on their best day. I’m just gonna be honest about it.”

She continued,

“Back in the day, I was rewinding 47,013 zillion times to get a Brandy run down pact. And still today… I feel like even now it’s hard to grasp. Brandy has a different kind of skill. No really, she really, really does! Her ability to hear certain things and be able…”

She added that even Brandy’s background vocals would be difficult to master before she made it clear she wasn’t trying to come for Monica.

“I’m not talking about Monica! Bump all of that and please stay off my ats. Get out my mentions. That’s not what I’m talking about. Brandy’s voice feels like silk. Sometimes, you gotta drink a little bit of Brandy…”

The idea of Monica and Brandy battling each other has been a topic of conversation ever since Monica was asked about it earlier this month.

She told Atlanta’s V103 radio station during an interview:

“I understand the idea of it and I think it’s really, really entertaining and it is an incredible idea. Now what I do like is that it is turning into a celebration, I can handle a celebration. I think a battle’s one thing. That’s happened to me my whole career, is being put against someone else that I’m not even remotely similar to. I think the reality is that us being polar opposites makes it dope and I tell people all the time, the only battle that they want to see is between me and Brandy.”

“The reality is people have put us against each other for 20 something years. I think “The Boy is Mine” is such a phenomenal record because we’re polar opposites and I think that’s dope, and she’s one of the greatest artists of our time as well so could we do a celebration or something of that sort? That would be the only thing that would make sense to me because I’ve been trying to tell people for about 25 years, you can like both. You gonna turn this into 1998 all over again and I have no interest in that.”

But she said she wasn’t completely against it either.

If there’s a way to do a real celebration then that would be dope because Teddy [Riley] and Babyface were really celebrating each other. They knew each others records and they gave each other love the whole time and I think thats what made it so dope. After a while a was a little scared watching Sean [Garrett] and The Dream like, hey fellas are we serious here? It just got a little bit intense and those are two producers that I absolutely adore. So for me it would have to be a celebratory form of it, it would have to be I don’t see it in any other way.”

Interestingly enough, Brandy told V-103 earlier this week that Monica turned down the opportunity to battle.

“I heard that she doesn’t want to do it. The last thing I heard was, she pretty much turned it down. She didn’t want to be a part of that. But I understand. But I love what they’ve been doing with that platform. It’s just a great way to share music and celebrate. The way Jill and Erykah did it, that’s the way to do it. Even Teddy and Babyface, it was great.”
