George Floyd – Family Of Alex Kueng, Officer Involved In His Death Says ‘It’s A Gut Punch, He Knows Right From Wrong’

The death of George Floyd at the hands of four former Minneapolis police officers is something that many people will never be able to forget. George Floyd was suffocated by Derek Chauvin who kneeled on his neck for over 8 minutes. His death prompted multiple protests against racial inequality around the world.

It’s now being reported that one of the officers involved in this unfortunate event initially joined the police force to prevent police brutality from taking place. Alex Kueng was the rookie officer who was on the scene when George Floyd died.

According to his friends and family, he became a police officer because he wanted to change the system from within. His mother, Joni Kueng, shared with The NewYork Times that her son thought he could use his mixed race (his mother is white and his father is Nigerian) as a way to help bridge the gap between the black and white communities. Joni Kueng said that when speaking on the changes that need to take place within the justice system Alex Kueng previously said,

“Don’t you think that that needs to be done from the inside?”

Even though Alex Kueng had good motives to become a police officer, not everyone in his personal life supported this career goal. Darrow Jones, A childhood friend of Alex Kueng and a supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement, said Mr. Kueng’s decision to become a police officer put a dent in their friendship.

“It was very clear where we stood on that, Our fundamental disagreement around law enforcement is not that I believe cops are bad people. I just believe that the system needs to be completely wiped out and replaced. It’s the difference between reform and rebuilding.”

It was only Alex Kueng’s 3rd day on the job as a police officer when George Floyd was killed. Since George Floyd’s death, the 26-year-old has been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and many of his family members have publicly spoken out against his actions. Joni Kueng said

“It’s a gut punch. Here you are, you’ve raised this child, you know who he is inside and out. We’re such a racially diverse family. To be wrapped up in a racially motivated incident like this is just unfathomable.”

His sister, Radiance Kueng, also spoke against what took place and said

“I don’t care if it was his third day at work or not. He knows right from wrong.”

In a Facebook post, his sister Radiance Kueng shared that she plans on changing her last name because she doesn’t want to be associated with her brother anymore.

George Floyd was officially laid to rest in his hometown of Houston, Texas.
