Lena Waithe To Develop New Show With Amazon About Open Marriages: It’s Fascinating To Me
Screenwriter Lena Waithe who’s known for writing shows such as The Chi and Boomerang will now be adding another project to her resume. Lena is set to develop a new drama series with Amazon Studios which will primarily focus on open marriages. According to a recent interview, Lena Waithe just finished a draft of the script for the pilot,
“I’ve never been in an open marriage, but it’s fascinating to me. We live in a world where, if I told you I cheated on my wife, you would be like, “Yeah, that’s the way it goes.” But if I told you that I’m in an open marriage, it would be as if I told you I’m joining the Church of Scientology.”
Lena spoke about making content that breaks barriers and discussed how the upcoming series could help society to reevaluate marriages today,
“My mission is to provide a space for people to grow, while making work that people can look at and say, ‘That broke a barrier.’ Society has such a conservative way of looking at marriage. I do think that we as a nation need to reevaluate what marriage looks like for us as a country — because whatever we have right now, it ain’t working.”

Lena Waithe’s own marriage made headlines back in January as she and ex wife Alana Mayo announced their split two months after revealing that they secretly got married.
The two got engaged on Thanksgiving 2017 after dating for three years. Rumors started circulating a few weeks later that the 36 year old screenwriter was seeing actress Cynthia Erivo and that they allegedly lived together. The two began to add fuel to the rumors when both ladies posted photos while watching singer Erykah Badu‘s online concert, seemingly in the same home theater room, adorned with starry skylights and bean bags.
