Octavia Spencer Sends ‘Love & Support’ To Ellen Amid Accusations Of ‘Toxic’ Work Environment: My Truth Is, Everyone Was Kind To Me
Actress Octavia Spencer is one of the latest celebrities to publicly support talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. It was previously reported that Ellen DeGeneres’ show is facing an investigation after several employees anonymously came forward and alleged they suffered racism while on set. Others alleged it was a “toxic” work environment. The head writer/executive producer Kevin Leman, has also been accused of sexual assault.
Ellen DeGeneres issued an apology to her staff. The letter reads in part:
“On day one of our show, I told everyone in our first meeting that ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ would be a place of happiness — no one would ever raise their voice, and everyone would be treated with respect. Obviously, something changed, and I am disappointed to learn that this has not been the case. And for that, I am sorry.”
“We have identified several staffing changes, along with appropriate measures to address the issues that have been raised, and are taking the first steps to implement them. Warner Bros. and Ellen DeGeneres are all committed to ensuring a workplace based on respect and inclusion. We are confident this course of action will lead us to the right way forward for the show.”
Now, Octavia Spencer has come to her defense via Instagram.
She shared a throwback photo of Ellen with the caption,
“Sending love and support to Ellen and all of the employees of her show. All of my interactions with everyone from the show including ELLEN were supportive and fun! In that spirit I am praying all involved get the love and support they need.”

She then addressed those who took issue with her post in the comments:
“UPDATE: lively debate happening in the comments. I welcome that. I also believe that all of the voices of her employees need to be heard. Past and present. Speaking truth to power is the only way change happens. My truth is everyone was kind to me. From the PAs to the producers. So yeah! I want all of those people to feel valued and heard. And no, people are NOT always kind to talent! #AllVoicesNeedToBeHeard #beyekindonetoanother”
Octavia Spencer’s support comes just days after comedian and actor Kevin Hart showed similar love.

He also addressed those who had a problem with him backing Ellen but staying quiet about the recent controversy against Nick Cannon.
