Police Officer Who Shot Jacob Blake Identified As Rusten Sheskey + GoFundMe For Blake Raises Nearly $2 Million In 3 Days
The Kenosha, Wisconsin police officer who shot Jacob Blake in the back several times has now been identified as officer Rusten Sheskey.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is currently conducting a full investigation to get an accurate account of what took place. The DOJ says that Kenosha Police Department officers arrived at a residence after receiving a call from a female saying that her boyfriend was there and he was not supposed to be.
According to video footage from the incident, police tried to arrest Jacob Blake and used a taser on him. Video then shows Jacob Blake walking around his vehicle, opening the driver’s side when officer Rusten Sheskey grabbed Jacob Blake’s shirt, shooting him in the back seven times.
The DOJ adds that Jacob Blake allegedly had a knife in his possession, found on the driver’s side floor of his car. No other weapons were found.
Jacob Blake’s mother created a GoFundMe campaign created for him to help pay for medical costs and therapy for his children who witnessed the incident. It has raised more than $1.7 million in just 2 days.
The GoFundMe reads:
“On August 23rd my son was shot multiple times in the back by a Kenosha Police Department officer, after my son broke up an altercation by an unrelated party. The shooting has now left my son critically injured as he fights for his life. The extent of my son’s injuries is unknown, but we remain prayerful as he continues to undergo multiple rounds of operations to save his life. This fund is established to cover my son’s medical expenses, mental and grief counseling for our family and to assist our family in the days to come, as we continue to seek justice for Jacob. A portion of these proceeds will also be used to benefit my son’s six children, some of whom witnessed this horrific act of violence. As previously reported, Jacob Blake is said to be paralyzed from the waist down following the shooting, and doctors are not sure if it’s temporary or not. His father asked,
“What justified all those shots? What justified doing that in front of my grandsons? What are we doing?
He added that there are “eight holes” in his son’s body and continued,
I want to put my hand on my son’s cheek and kiss him on his forehead, and then I’ll be OK. I’ll kiss him with my mask. The first thing I want to do is touch my son.”
