Janet Hubert Confronts Will Smith Over Being Labeled As ‘Difficult’: I Lost Everything
Janet Hubert and Will Smith were able to hash out their differences after 27 years of publicly feuding. The emotional conversation took place during the reunion special for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as the entire cast, including both Aunt Vivs, celebrated the 30th anniversary of the sitcom.
Will Smith and Janet Hubert took time to speak on their issues with one another. During that time, Janet Hubert addressed Will Smith for the reputation that she once had as being “difficult” after her exit from the series after three seasons.

She told him:
“Words can kill. I lost everything. Reputation, everything, everything. I understand you were able to move forward, but you know those words, calling a Black woman difficult in Hollywood is the kiss of death. It’s the kiss of death. It’s hard enough being a dark-skinned black woman in this business.”
She also explained her departure, stating that in real life, she was pregnant and suffering an abusive marriage. Will Smith confessed that he didn’t understand the magnitude of what she was experiencing, but does now that he has three children of his own. He added:
“I can see where I made the set very difficult for Janet.”
