‘Coming 2 America’ Releases Official Trailer
Since the announcement of the sequel to the cult classic Coming To America, fans have been in high anticipation of anything from the film they could get ahold of. Not to disappoint, Prime Video has released the official trailer for the long-awaited movie, Coming 2 America, which is set to premiere March 5, 2021.
The trailer, full of nostalgia, is deeply reminiscent of its 1988 predecessor that stars Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, and classic characters within the film that they play.
The movie release date, once set for December 2020, had to be pushed back due to COVID-19 and found a new home with Amazon Studios. Paramount Studios reportedly sold the film to Amazon Studios in a $125 million deal.
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios said:
“’Coming to America’ was a cultural phenomenon that is one of the most loved and celebrated comedies of all time. Thanks to Eddie Murphy’s comedic genius along with the brilliant filmmakers, writers, and fabulous cast, we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this new adventure. We know audiences around the world will fall in love with this hilarious, joyful movie that will surely become a timeless favorite.”
Producer Kevin Misher added:
“What could be better than a return to Zamunda? We are so excited for Amazon Studios to bring Eddie Murphy and ‘Coming 2 America’ to a worldwide audience where they can laugh again with characters they have loved for 30 years, and meet new ones that they will love for years to come.”
The original Coming To America classic is based on a story created by comedian and actor extraordinaire, Eddie Murphy who plays the lead role as Prince Akeem Joffer. Born into royalty in the country of Zamunda, Prince Akeem lives a life of pampering and privilege. On his 21st birthday, his parents King Jaffe and Queen Aoleon arrange a blind marriage for their son, only to be asked if he can find his own bride to marry.
Prince Akeem and his best friend and royal aide Semmi (played by Arsenio Hall), set off to America where he ultimately finds his bride-to-be.
