Alfonso Ribeiro Clarifies ‘Bel Air’ Show Is NOT A ‘Fresh Prince’ Reboot: It’s A Totally Different Show
Alfonso Ribeiro is setting the record straight on the premise for the upcoming Bel-Air series.
The show might hold a similar name to “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, but Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Carlton Banks on the infamous sitcom, made it clear they are not the same.
“Bel-Air” has already been greenlighted two seasons on NBC’s streaming platform Peacock. It centers around “Fresh Prince’s” main character Will Smith and tells the story of his life before lavishly living in Bel-Air. It’s based on a trailer a fan made back in 2019.
Alfonso Ribeiro spoke on Bel-Air during an interview with E! News and said it is in no way a reboot. He explained,
“A reboot would be taking the actual show and characters and bringing it back. This is a totally different show. It’s not even based on the show. It’s based on the theme song. It’s a completely different thing. It’s drama. It’s not comedy. I have nothing to do with it so I don’t really know anything more.”
Interestingly enough, he saluted the concept and said it could be more interesting than a reboot.
“I actually appreciate it even more than a reboot.Let’s take a concept and turn it into a different show. I’m like, roll the dice. Go ahead and try it and see what happens.”
Will Smith helped announce Bel-Air last year.
A premiere date for Bel-Air has not been scheduled yet.
