Robert De Niro ‘Forced’ To Work To Pay For Estranged Wife’s ‘Thirst For Stella McCartney’, His Lawyer Claims

Is actor Robert De Niro working a strenuous schedule set by his wife’s shopping habits?

In a court hearing on April 16th, Robert De Niro’s attorney, Caroline Krauss, made claims regarding the financial stress her client is under. Specifically, Krauss claimed the bulk of the strain results from the spending habits of his soon-to-be ex-wife, Grace Hightower. Krauss stated:

“Mr. De Niro is 77 years old, and while he loves his craft, he should not be forced to work at this prodigious pace because he has to.”

She continued,

“When does that stop? When does he get the opportunity to not take every project that comes along and not work six-day weeks, 12-hour days so he can keep pace with Ms. Hightower’s thirst for Stella McCartney?”

As previously reportedRobert De Niro and Grace Hightower have been embroiled in a legal battle over alimony and other financial assets. Ultimately, the battle pertains to Grace Hightower demanding half of what De Niro is worth. In turn, De Niro claims that tax issues and the pandemic have affected his financial security and, in turn, the amount he can allocate to Hightower.

However, Hightower‘s attorney Kevin McDonough refuted the claims of De Niro‘s financial strain. Kevin McDonough stated:

“There have been no cutbacks and no [financial] slowdowns in Mr. De Niro’s lifestyle whatsoever.”

He continued,

“When Mr. De Niro goes to brunch Sunday in Connecticut, he charters a helicopter up there. When he flies down to see his friends in Florida or wherever else, it’s a private jet.”

Both parties have denied the other’s spending claims.

In response to the couple’s financial squabble, Matthew Cooper of the Manhattan Supreme Court commented:

“I want to get these parties divorced. I want to get Ms. Hightower and Mr. De Niro to go their separate ways. They will still come out of this richer than almost any human being who walks this earth.”

The couple is still legally married, but they separated back in 2018 after 21 years of marriage. De Niro also filed for divorce back in 1999, but he and Hightower mended their rift in 2004.
