DJ Quik Burns Death Row Royalty Check, Says He Wants Proper Credit For Work He’s Done With Nelly, Kendrick Lamar, R. Kelly, 50 Cent & Tupac
DJ Quik took to social media to call out the music industry. The legendary rapper, record producer and musician, burned his Death Row Records royalty check because he insists proper credits have not been given to him for all of the work he’s done. DJ Quik said in a video,
“I’m real offended by this Deathrow check, and this amount. As much work as I did for these sons of b*tches, I just feel like the respect factor is just crazy, there is none.“
DJ Quik goes on to say:
“All the Tupac s*** I did, helped with Tha Dogg Pound project. Devil you are a b*tch! I want my real money, and I want all my credits for everything that I did in this industry, all the songs including ‘Hot in Herre’ by Nelly and Pharrell. I want my credit from Kendrick Lamar for… it’s no disrespect to Kendrick, I love you guys TDE, you guys are awesome, but the fact that ya’ll left my credit off of ‘King Kunta’ was crazy.”
He continued,
“R.Kelly’s ‘Home Alone’ is 100% all of my drum sounds, my music, and me playing percussion on it. I want that too. ‘All Eyez On Me’ is my credit. I want that. ‘In Da Club’, I helped with that record. ‘If I Can’t Do It, It Can’t Be Done’, 50 cent, I want that record. I want all my credits.”
He concluded and said,
“I’m starting to get to a point to where I’m impatient, and I feel disrespected. I’m not going to be the underdog of this music industry anymore. I am to be respected as a king and a lord that I am. A god when it comes to production. I need all of my f*cking credit. I took death chances being over there. I could’ve been killed at that record company. I need all my f*cking credit. Gimme my sh*t while I’m alive, gimme my roses while I can smell ’em. Real Talk! Burn you b*tch you. So disrespectful.”
Fans did some digging and the check was allegedly for $188.
