Michelle Williams Shares Audio From Destiny’s Child Group Chat, Tells Beyonce & Kelly Rowland: I’ve Never Been Truthful About How I Really Was

Destiny’s Child fans got a candid look into the sisterhood between Michelle Williams, Kelly Rowland, and Beyoncé!

Yesterday (Wednesday, May 26th), Michelle Williams shared audio from the Destiny’s Child group chat with Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland. In the three separate clips, the singers discussed a variety of topics, including Michelle Williams’ new book, Checking In: How Getting Real about Depression Changed My Life–and Can Save Yours.

In the first clip, Beyoncé expresses how happy she is for Michelle Williams in her writing endeavor, saying:

“We’re so proud of you, Mimi! You are so inspirational for both of us and we just love watching you become exactly who you are [and letting] the world see your impact and your wisdom and your beautiful advice and your discernment and we’re just so proud of you.”

In response, Michelle Williams begins to discuss how she “was feeling a lot of pressure” regarding the book, which was released earlier this month. Kelly Rowland then jumps in to offer her empathy and support, telling Michelle:

“Yeah, it feels like you’re releasing music, because it’s like ‘are people going to like it? Is it gonna do well the first week?’ all of those things–but you over that now. You giving birth!”

In the second audio clip, the women discuss the concept of checking in on close friends, particularly during the pandemic. Michelle says:

“How often we’re saying ‘hey, just checking in!’ We’ve been saying that for a long, long time–‘just checking in! just checking in!’ And I think the pandemic has made it have to be intentional, like ‘yo, I’m just checking in’ because we’ve [all] been checking out.”

Finally, the last audio clip begins with Beyoncé asking Michelle about what she hopes people will learn from her book. In response, Michelle Williams states:

“It’s okay to not be okay, and it’s okay to tell somebody you’re not okay. Because I honestly–I should have done that with y’all. I’ve been open about a lot of things, but I’ve never been really truthful about how I really was. Even though y’all have proven to be safe friends, sometimes people have to know [they’re] not going to be looked at differently. You can just say ‘y’all, I’ve been sad just a little too long.'”

Kelly Rowland then follows up with:

“People should know that along with friendships there is humility. And you have to allow yourself to hold a safe place and a safe space for all friendships to be able to check in. It’s a blessing to be able to have that. When it’s that person–you’re person–it’s nothing that they’ll judge you for. There’s nothing you can’t tell them. I think that that’s the greatest thing that [Destiny’s Child gave us]… my gift of friendship for you guys.”

In response to this sentiment, Beyoncé agrees and says:

“Absolutely. And I just know Kelly and I feel so honored that we are now your safe place where you can express any and every thing. And we know that you are that for us, and you’ve always been that for us. So we’re just happy to be along this journey and happy to witness the birth of a new chapter.”

Shortly thereafter, the groupmates proceeded to reflect on their long-term friendship, saying their 20-year friendship “ain’t going nowhere.”

As we can see, the Destiny’s Child girls are still as strong and supportive of each other as ever!
