Kevin Hart Says He Talks To His Children About His Past Scandals: My Kids Understand Who Their Father Is
Kevin Hart doesn’t hold back when sharing his past mistakes with his children.
The comedian and father of four opened up about talking to his kids about his past scandals.
Kevin Hart is father to daughter Heaven, 16; son Hendrix, 13 from his previous marriage with his ex-wife Torrei Hart. He and his wife Eniko Hart also share two children – son Kenzo, 3; and daughter Kaori Mai, 9 months.

He said of his relationship with his children in an interview with Romper for its Father’s Day issue:
“I’m the cool dad. But it’s not like dad is the funniest person. They’ve got a list of people funnier than me. My kids are on YouTube, they’re on TikTok, they got a whole new generation of people that they love.” None of whom he knows. “The fact that gamers were able to make this their career is amazing. Things evolve, so I don’t judge it… I don’t mind that my kids spend time doing it, but I’m not watching a person play a game.”
His personal life made headlines in 2017 after he shared a video apologizing to Eniko Hart, who was 8 months pregnant at the time, for cheating on her. Back then, a woman was allegedly attempting to extort him with threats of sharing footage of their hookup.
A couple of years later, he was slated to host the 2019 Oscar Awards, but things went left after his old homophobic tweets and remarks resurfaced and fans pushed for him to be removed. He later revealed the Academy gave him an ultimatum to apologize or step down. He chose the latter, stating that he had already addressed the controversy before. Still, he did issue an apology in his statement and said,
“I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past … I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart.”

Now that his kids are getting older, Kevin Hart, who stars in Netflix’s new Fatherhood movie, said he doesn’t hide his past controversies from them.
“You have to talk to your kids about it because it’s going to come out. And some of them are cool about it and some of them are not, depending on the situation. You have to understand the different personalities and manage them correctly. My kids understand who their father is. And, unfortunately, there’s a gift and a curse that comes with that. The gift is the life that you’re able to live, and the curse is the spotlight that’s on you constantly.”
