Lil Wayne Reflects On His Meeting W/ Donald Trump & Says Progress Is Always Possible + Speaks On Current DaBaby Controversy

Lil Wayne spoke on some controversial figures during a recent interview!

Yesterday (Wednesday, August 11th), the Los Angeles Times published their interview with Lil Wayne (real name Dwayne Carter Jr.). During his sit-down, Lil Wayne initially reflected on his controversial meeting with Donald Trump last year.

As previously reported, the rapper met up with Donald Trump to discuss his Platinum Plan for Black Americans, which was introduced last September. The plan was an initiative that sought to “uplift Black communities across the country through a $500 billion investment.” Lil Wayne commemorated the occasion on social media, tweeting:

“Just had a great meeting with @realdonaldtrump @potus besides what he’s done so far with criminal reform, the platinum plan is going to give the community real ownership. He listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done.”

He later claimed the meeting went well, saying:

“He’s a really nice guy. He’s really an activist, in a very positive way.”

During his recent interview, Lil Wayne shared similar—although brief–sentiments. When asked if he thought progress with Trump was possible, the rapper optimistically stated:

“Progress is always possible.”

Lil Wayne also shared his thoughts about  DaBaby‘s homophobia controversy. As you may recall, DaBaby faced backlash after making negative comments about gay men and people with HIV at Lollapalooza. During his set, he said:

“If you didn’t show up today with HIV/AIDS, any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that will make you die in 2 [or] 3 weeks, put ya cellphone light in the air…. Fellas, if you ain’t sucking d*ck in the parking lot, put ya cellphone light in the air. Keep it f*cking real!”

He was later dropped by various other festivals, and he even lost his partnership with boohooMAN.

When asked about the situation, Lil Wayne initially claimed he was not aware of DaBaby‘s controversy. After he was brought up to speed, Lil Wayne remarked:

“You know how it goes. The spotlight on artists and celebrities is absolutely crazy. You don’t even have to be a celebrity. Even normal people can feel like they’re wrong because their 200 followers said something. But that’s the power of social media today.”
