Afrika Bambaataa & Universal Zulu Nation Accused Of Child Sex Trafficking In New Lawsuit, Man Claims When He Was 12, Rapper Sexually Assaulted Him
Afrika Bambaataa is facing more troubling legal matters.
According to recent reports, Afrika Bambaataa–considered one of hip-hop’s godfathers–was recently sued for child sex trafficking. Both Afrika Bambaataa and the Universal Zulu Nation–a hip-hop awareness group he formed in the 1970s–were named in the lawsuit, which was filed by an unidentified man last month. The man alleges that Afrika Bambaataa sexually assaulted him when he was just 12 years old.
Specifically, Afrika Bambaataa is accused of sodomizing and masterbating in front of the then-12-year-old boy. The lawsuit goes on to allege:
“While parading himself as a pillar in the community and the leader of a righteous organization, Bambaataa’s degradation and humiliation of this young boy knew no bounds.”
This matter is not the first time Afrika Bambaataa has been accused of sexually assaulting young boys. Back in 2016, musician-turned-activist Ronald Savage claimed Afrika Bambaataa molested him at the age of 13 by forcing him to perform oral sex. Following Ronald Savage‘s allegations, various other men spoke up and accused Afrika Bambaataa of molesting them as well. In the face of the accusations, the Universal Zulu Nation ultimately removed him as their leader.
Regarding the new allegations and lawsuit against Afrika Bambaataa, the Universal Zulu Nation released the following statement:
“Nothing has changed since 2016 when these decades ago accusations first surfaced. This is a personal matter for Afrika Bambaataa and his lawyers to deal with and has absolutely nothing to do with the 10 year long UZN-DOCA mission, programs and projects which continue in the revolutionary legacy of both The Black Panther Party & The Young Lords Party to ‘Serve The People, Body & Soul.'”
Afrika Bambaataa has not publicly commented on the lawsuit or allegations.
