Kanye West Files Trademark To Launch ‘Donda’ Tech Company
While Kanye West made history with his Donda album, it’s safe to say he’s still expanding his empire outside of music.
The Grammy-winning rapper recently filed a trademark application to put his late mother’s name, Donda, on a series of tech products from tablets, speakers, and surround sound systems. He also reportedly wants to place Donda on smartwatches, smart glasses, protective flip covers for tablet computers, and wearable activity trackers.
If his trademark gets the green light, he will reportedly put Donda on earbuds, headphones, wireless headsets for tablet computers, and wireless headsets for mobile phones. Jewelry and smart rings, along with downloadable publications via books, journals, magazines, newsletters, pamphlets, and leaflets for entertainment and music news, would be included in the trademarked products as well.
This filing comes just weeks after he filed a trademark for a homeware line.
While it looks like he wants to launch his own tech company, he recently settled a $20 million lawsuit a black-owned tech company, MyChannel, filed against him.
Kanye West previously partnered with MyChannel to boost sales on the Yeezy website by “incorporat[ing] e-commerce in video content.” However, Kanye West reportedly backed out after MyChannel allegedly contributed more than 10,000 hours into developing a program.
The company alleged Kanye stole the idea and used it to sell Sunday Service merchandise. MyChannel also claimed the rapper failed to fulfill his promise of a $10 million investment. As a result, the company sued Kanye for $20 million and requested a jury trial.
Still, it was reported last month that MyChannel and Kanye settled the lawsuit. According to recent reports, both parties agreed to a joint stipulation of dismissal. Additionally, Kanye and MyChannel have agreed to pay their own respective legal fees.
