Alicia Keys Was Not Impressed With Husband Swizz Beatz When They First Met: He’s Pretty Loud & Loves Attention

It looks like it was not love at first sight for the music mogul couple Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz.

The happy couple met when they were just teenagers in New York City. They tied the knot in 2010, but the road to a romantic relationship was not always so blissful.

In a sit down interview with Speedy Norman, Alicia Keys explained how when they first met, the hip-hop producer did not impress her. She says,

I wasn’t with it. He just wasn’t my vibe…like he’s pretty loud, pretty over the top, he loves a lot of attention.

Alicia Keys statements should not come as a shock to people as she detailed their relationship in her memoir More of Myself. In the book she explained how his flashiness turned her off.

She wrote,

We ended up in the same circles at various awards shows and industry events. He’d usually pull up in some fancy car, rolling deep with his Bronx crew and shining with diamonds. I wanted nothing to do with that scene or with Swizz.

It wasn’t until her first date that the singer states she started to look at him differently. In an interview Keys gave a detailed account of her discourse for Swizz changed.

As we approached my, car I noticed something enormous attached to its top. He smiled. That’s why I was late. It was a painting of a grand piano with paintbrushes attached to the keys. When I saw this it seemed like the perfect representation of our friendship. You’re the keys, I’m the brushes.

From that day on the couple built a romantic relationship that had developed into marriage and two kids.

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz were met with much criticism when they first began dating after allegations of the two of them starting their relationship while Beatz was still married to ex-wife Mashonda. Since then, the couple has been open about the obstacles when it comes to blending a family and moving forward in positivity.
