Mariah Carey Gushes About Beyoncé When Pressed About A Potential Verzuz Battle: I Admire Her So Much As A Performer For What She’s Done For The World
Could a Verzuz battle between Beyoncé and Mariah Carey be on the horizon?
As previously reported, record executive L.A. Reid recently stated that he was interested in seeing Beyoncé and Mariah Carey go head-to-head on the Verzuz stage. He specifically made his comments while appearing on The Real earlier this month, claiming:
“Mariah Carey versus Beyoncé! Bey’s the queen, right? We know Bey is the queen. But sometimes Mariah might be slightly underrated for how long her career has lasted, how many hits she has, and she practically owns Christmas.”
While many brushed off L.A. Reid‘s suggestion as a mere fantasy, Mariah Carey addressed the speculation yesterday (Wednesday, Dec. 15th). During an interview with E!, the iconic singer was questioned about the Verzuz idea. In response, she expressed her appreciation for Beyoncé:
“I love Beyoncé and I admire her so much as a performer for what she’s done for the world and everything else.”
When further pressed on the whether or not she’d be open to doing a Verzuz, she stated:
“I’d be disrespecting myself and I’m not going to do that, because it’s Christmas time.”
While it’s not totally clear if the artists will face-off in a Verzuz battle, it sounds like Mariah Carey has nothing but love and admiration for the “Partition” singer!
These comments come on the heels of Beyoncé making Forbes‘ “World’s 100 Most Powerful Women” list. The Houston native was specifically listed as #76 on the list, and she was joined by other familiar faces like Oprah Winfrey and Rihanna (#23 and #68, respectively).
