Los Angeles rapper Drakeo the Ruler’s family is filing a wrongful death lawsuit against Live Nation Entertainment. His family and their legal team argue that their negligence allowed a mob of men to beat and stab him to death.
The mother of Drakeo’s 5-year-old son, Tianna Purdue, spoke about the rapper’s tragic death at a press conference. She said:
“How did these people get through? How did these people get access, backstage, to an artist? Where was anyone? Where was anyone there to help him?”
His family’s lawyer, James Bryant, stated:
“Mr. Caldwell was lynched by 40 to 60 people. This would never have happened if those promoters had the proper security protocol. The world lost an amazing artist, a beautiful human being, a father.”
On Dec. 18, 2021, Drakeo was preparing to go on stage at the Once Upon a Time in LA festival when a fight broke out. Some reports say that, as he attempted to break up the brawl, he was stabbed. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to the wounds on his neck. An up-and-coming rapper from Los Angeles, Drakeo’s named joined a lineup of West Coast greats such as Snoop Dogg and Warren G.
A video of the incident was broadcast at the press conference. According to the family’s attorney, it shows the “targeted assassination,” that took place moments before the stabbing. A large group of men in red can be seen cornering Drakeo and attacking him. There were no security guards or police officers present in the frame.
