Miss Cleo, Famous 90’s Infomercial Psychic, Has A Documentary In The Works!

Miss Cleo definitely would have predicted this!

Famed 90’s TV psychic Miss Cleo is set to be the subject of a new documentary about her work and life.

Miss Cleo, a supposed Jamaican born clairvoyant, had the 90’s in a chokehold as millions of people tuned in for Miss Cleo’s infomercial psychic readings. Wowed by her undeniable charisma, Miss Cleo would accept calls from listeners and read tarot cards, shocking viewers with her accuracy and spot on details about their life.

Youree Dell Harris as Miss Cleo

Many seemed to believe in Miss Cleo’s readings and advice as she reportedly brought in over a billion dollars in pay-per-call sales for the Psychic Readers Network. However things came to a screeching halt in 2002 when the FTC accused the network who hired Youree Dell Harris to play Miss Cleo and its owners of deceptive advertising, billing, and collection practices.

The documentary will be directed by award-winning filmmaker Senain Kheshgi and produced by Nonfiction entertainment studio XTR and production company Majority. Youree Dell Harris, the Los Angeles playwright and actress who played Miss Cleo, passed away from cancer in 2006 at the age of 53, thus Senain Kheshgi is said to be interviewing “subjects throughout Miss Cleo’s past” for the documentary.

Director Senain Kheshgi had this to say about the upcoming documentary:

“Youree Harris may have been an accomplice or perhaps a victim in the Psychic Reader’s Network fraud but she also had talent and personality, which for women doesn’t always translate into access or wealth.”

He continued:

“Her story is an example of how brown and Black women have historically been marginalized and exotified in society and popular culture. The enduring image of the dark, mystical woman still continues to perpetuate this stereotype. As a woman of color and a director who wants to explore stories from diverse perspectives, I am moved by how Youree found a way to navigate her life on her own terms.”

There is currently no release date for the film.
