Oprah Winfrey & Gayle King Reflect On How A Snowstorm Sparked Their 46-Year-Old Friendship: We Ended Up Talking All Night Long
Powerhouse duo Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King are reflecting on their 46-year-old friendship!
Oprah Winfrey,68, was a 22-year-old news anchor at WJZ-TV in Baltimore when she offered Gayle King,67, then a 21-year-old production assistant/writer at the station, a place to crash for the night due to a heavy snowstorm. The two had no idea that this would mark the start of their long-term friendship. Oprah Winfrey explained,
“We ended up talking all night long. We’ve literally been friends ever since.”
The duo recently sat down and chatted about their immense love and admiration for each other. They shared that while they don’t agree on everything, they do share similar values and philosophies about life and often have spirited discussions around current events.
“I always get, ‘This is my Oprah’..It’s one of the biggest compliments.”
“And I always get, ‘This is my Gayle’. I understand what that means: long-term, standing in the gap, no matter what I’m here for you.”
It’s clear these two share a strong bond and connection that they truly cherish. While reflecting on the friendship, Gayle King said,
“I [can] trust her about anything. Her advice is always very good.”
Oprah also revealed that they have never had a “serious argument” in their 46-year friendship.
“People will find this hard to believe, but we’ve never had a serious argument… It certainly is a beautiful friendship.”
