On Thursday (July 7) the video clip of the singers tribute went viral and quickly had social media divided.

While some fans applauded the tribute and felt Keri Hilson was deserving of the honor, others had harsh criticism and threw insults. One user wrote,

“The Keri Hilson hate is getting ridiculous. She’s had countless contributions to music, written for some of the biggest artists in the industry and has hits of her own under her belt. Some of your faves don’t even have a Teen Choice surfboard.”

While another had different sentiments and said,

“I didn’t know she had that many songs or was out long enough to give a tribute.”

Much of the harsh criticism Keri Hilson has received over the years is rumored to be connected to the alleged shade she threw at Beyonce and Ciara over a decade ago, when she did a remix to her single “Turnin’ Me On” and said :

“Your vision cloudy if you think that you da best. You can dance, she can sing, but need to move to the left… She need to go have some babies, she need to sit down, she fake, them other chicken aint even with talking bout.”

After four years of the release of “Turnin Me On,” some Beyonce fans continued to troll and Keri pleaded to the BeyHive on twitter. She wrote:

“It’s TOO Much!! Please! Is everything I tweet gonna be “intentionally misinterpreted” as a statement about someone/drama I know nothing about?”

Keri continued:

“You have no idea what your hateful words could do to someone’s spirit. Years of verbal abuse from strangers all day long. Enough is enough! I’m here for MY FANS! I’m stronger than you imagine but waking up/going to bed to your ugliness is just TOO MUCH, kids, I get it, OK? You can stop now. As far as WHATEVER you’re really mad about, I had my reasons. It’s been years! Just chalk it up to your ignorance of my reality and LET… IT… GO. As for my mistakes, God has dealt with me.”
